InterACT Rx™ Testing Capabilities Expanded to Broaden Providers’ Capabilities to Identify Pertinent Drug Interactions

Nashville, Tennessee (May 6, 2020) – Aegis Sciences Corporation, a leading healthcare company that provides clinically innovative medication compliance testing and consulting services to providers, implemented an expanded InterACT Rx™ test offering on April 1, 2020.  Testing will now include over 180 total analytes, and more than 130 drugs or substances.

In order to better serve healthcare providers, InterACT Rx™ testing has been broadened to assist with identification of additional commonly prescribed interacting medications used to treat other comorbidities that pain and behavioral health patients may face.  “Healthcare providers must have the ability to better understand what patients are actually taking when assessing for risks associated with drug-drug interactions.  By increasing the scope of our test, providers will have even greater insight into patient’s recent medication use allowing for improved clinical decision making,” said Dr. Josh Schrecker, Senior Clinical Pharmacist at Aegis.

Since its inception in 2016, InterACT Rx™ testing has been used to assist in the identification of drug-drug interactions in over 500,000 patient samples.  Study results have demonstrated that despite application of standard practices to identify drug interactions through medication reconciliation, over 1/3 of patients tested had at least one interaction identified with recently ingested substances.  A follow-up study demonstrated significant improvements in clinical decisions regarding drug-drug interactions by providers that utilized InterACT Rx results when treating patients.

“Shortcomings associated with identification of drug interactions through electronic medical records in conjunction with medication reconciliation are well established.  Giving providers objective identification of interacting, ingested substances is a great way to improve upon well-known gaps in patient care,” said Dr. Elaine Jeter, Aegis Medical Director.
