Dr. Tim Robert, PhD, recognized at the 40th anniversary of The Quillen College of Medicine, ETSU

Dr. Tim Robert, Ph.D., Chief Science Officer of Aegis Science Corporation, was recognized at the 40th anniversary of The Quillen College of Medicine, East Tennessee State University (ETSU) on November 1, 2014. Dr. Robert was the recipient of the first ever doctoral degree awarded by ETSU in 1979 and it was earned through the biomedical sciences program at the Quillen College of Medicine.

The Quillen College of Medicine was created in conjunction with the Mountain Home Veteran Administration facility in Johnson City by approval of the Tennessee legislature in 1974 to access VA funding designated by the federal Teague-Cranston act authorizing three new American medical schools. The first class of medical students started in 1978 and twenty three MD degrees were conferred in 1982. Today ETSU grants doctoral degrees in 13 disciplines and has continued to provide approximately 50% of its physician graduates of the Quillen College of Medicine to the medically underserved Appalachian region.
