Anabolic Steroid Abuse
Anabolic steroids are synthetic compounds closely related to the male sex hormone testosterone. Steroids can be taken orally, injected, or applied on the skin in the form of gels or creams. Commonly abused steroids include Anadrol, Dianobol, Winstrol, Durabolin, and Equipoise. The non-medical use of these drugs by high school, college, amateur, and professional athletes is a dangerous and growing problem.
Effects of use/abuse include:
- Severe acne
- Rashes
- Stunted growth
- Sexual function problems
- Behavioral changes, aggressiveness ("roid rages")
- Cholesterol increase
- Heart disease
- Liver tumors
- Cancer
- Cataracts
Anabolic Steroid Testing
Aegis® offers two Anabolic Steroid Profiles:
- Comprehensive Steroid Profile: this profile mirrors the profile used by collegiate and international testing organizations.
- Targeted Steroid Profile: this profile includes the most-often used steroids, masking agents, and anti-catabolic agents and is perfect for high schools, police departments, and other organizations that do not require the comprehensive profile.
